Humboldt Marine & Coastal Sciences Institute

We promote interdisciplinary marine and coastal research, education, and outreach at Humboldt.

The Institute is composed of 22 faculty from eight departments across Humboldt's campus and an external advisory board.

Mission. The mission of the MCSI is to develop and promote interdisciplinary marine and coastal research, education, and outreach at Humboldt.

Vision. The vision of the MCSI is for Humboldt to have a robust community of Humboldt students and faculty actively engaged in interdisciplinary research on marine and coastal systems. This research will occur at the interface of the sciences, policy, and economics, and will support vibrant partnerships with local, national, and international organizations.

Role. The MCSI will serve as a forum for coordinated development, funding, and execution of marine science research, education, and outreach efforts on campus. The MCSI will serve as a contact point for community members (such as individuals, non-profits, schools, and tribes), and for state and national agencies involved in marine science and policy work. Finally, the MCSI will serve as the visible “face” of the marine sciences at Humboldt, with a web presence promoting Humboldt marine science to prospective students, granting agencies, and community collaborators.
